International Publishing

Publishing without borders

A programme built for writing that travels — across languages, cultures and literary traditions — and for readers who follow it.

§1The Programme

What POL publishes

01

Literary fiction & poetry

Novels, short stories and poems — written in English or translated into it — chosen for voice, craft and staying power.

02

Non-fiction & ideas

Essays, memoir, history and cultural criticism that cross borders of discipline as readily as borders of language.

03

Translation & bilingual editions

Literary translation led by translators, with Bengali-to-English work a signature of the house.

04

Research & scholarship

Commissioned studies and editorial projects on literature, language, migration and cultural exchange.

§2From Manuscript to Book

How a POL book is made

  1. Acquisition

Manuscripts are read by editors, not filtered by keyword. Every submission receives a considered response.

  2. Editorial

Structural and line editing in close partnership with the author — and, for translations, with the translator.

  3. Design & production

Typography, covers and materials chosen to honour the text: the book as a made object, not a container.

  4. Publication & beyond

Distribution, rights and publicity aimed at readers in the UK and internationally — and a long life for each book.
